SESSION 2

Overview

Designing heat pump systems is only as good as the assumptions you start with.

An accurate representation of the home can make or break a Manual J load calculation. Load calculation results, along with equipment characteristics, are also critical inputs for Manual S (ACCA’s equipment selection protocol). If you get the design inputs wrong, even the best install in the world will have comfort issues, callbacks, and other bad outcomes.

In this session, we’ll cut through the noise and focus on what really matters when designing for inverter-driven, variable-capacity heat pump systems in any climate.

You will learn about:

  • Which Manual J inputs matter the most, and how to quickly identify the right values in the field
  • How load calcs feed directly into Manual S, along with equipment performance characteristics, and where common mistakes happen
  • Critical trade-offs, beyond Manual S, related to auxiliary heat, low load cycling, and operational cost
  • Real-world examples, best practices, and resources you can use right away
